Make "DUCT" Work For You

Increase the Effectiveness and Efficiency of

Your Dust Collection System

The dust collector, ductwork, and air purifier comprise the main components of a dust collection system They work together to remove particles from the air.

Though sometimes an afterthought, the design and layout of ductwork plays a crucial role in the overall effectiveness and efficiency of a dust collection system.

Ductwork significantly impacts a dust collector's performance by influencing the airflow throughout the system; if the ductwork is improperly sized or designed, it can create excessive resistance to airflow, leading to reduced dust capture efficiency, increased energy consumption, and potential dust buildup within the ducts.

Did You Know...

Many existing dust collection systems are modified over the years, adding and removing pick up points. This can put the system out of balance great dust capture at some points and no pick other other points.

Our TEC engineers can review your ductwork. We can design the hoods and balance the system to achieve proper conveying velocities and ensure optimal dust capture at all pickup points.

How ductwork affects dust collector performance:

  • Duct size:
  • Too small: Restricts airflow, causing high static pressure and potentially clogging the duct with dust.
  • Too large: Decreases air velocity, allowing dust to settle out of the airstream, reducing collection efficiency.
  • Duct design:
  • Sharp bends and elbows: Create turbulence and increase resistance to airflow, hindering dust transport.
  • Long, straight runs: Promote smooth airflow and minimize dust buildup.
  • Branching: Improperly designed branches can disrupt airflow and cause uneven dust collection.
  • Duct material:
  • Rough surfaces: Can increase friction and reduce airflow.
  • Flexible hose: Excessive use of flex hose can cause unnecessary resistance and airflow inconsistencies.

Optimize ductwork for dust collection:

  • Proper sizing: Calculate the required airflow and select duct diameters that maintain appropriate air velocity.
  • Minimize bends and elbows: Use large radius elbows where possible to reduce airflow disruption.
  • Straight runs: Design ductwork with long, straight sections whenever feasible.
  • Material selection: Choose smooth-walled duct materials to minimize friction.
  • Regular maintenance: Clean the ductwork periodically to remove dust buildup and maintain optimal airflow.

Flanged Ductwork

Flanged ductwork from 3" to 40" and more. Duct with flanges (also called angle rings or angle flanges) in black iron, galvanized, or stainless steel (SS), with or without holes is also available.

Rolled Lip Clamp Together Duct

  • Speed of Installation: Installs about 70% faster than flanged or spiral ductwork.
  • Ease of Installation: No need to rivet, weld, or bolt together components. US Duct makes installation easy by providing you with simple, easy-to-follow "A" to "B" drawings of your specific system.
  • Infinitely Adjustable: With other types of connections (spiral, flanged, welded,) the duct has to be cut exactly to fit, US Duct’s Clamp Together Ducting is infinitely adjustable by using the 11" adjustable sleeve and the adjustable collar found on the end of each fitting.

Custom Ductwork

Dust exhaust systems frequently need custom-made parts to extract dust from a machine - a special transition that connects the collector to the ductwork, a specific manifold, or a custom hood that collects dust from unusual angles or openings.

Whether you need standard duct or more customized duct fabrication services, US Duct can help.
